This page explains how to delete your map.name account, what is removed, what is kept, and for how long. You can do it inside the app, on the web, or by email without installing anything. You have 90 days to change your mind.
map.name is published by BNDDIGITAL LIMITED, Ground Floor, 71 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin, Ireland. These instructions apply to the map.name app on Google Play and the App Store, and to map.name on the web. They cover the same account either way.
Deletion cannot be undone once it is processed. Exporting is free, takes one click, and gives you a JSON file containing your captures, your notes word for word, and your published and unpublished writing.
Open your account menu, choose More, type your handle to confirm, then choose Export my data. On the web you can also use Export everything (JSON) at the bottom of the Import page, with no confirmation needed.
You are signed out on every device straight away, and your content stops being visible to anyone, including on any pages you had published.
Deleting is a two-stage process on purpose. For 90 days your data is kept but hidden, and signing in again restores your account exactly as you left it. After 90 days it is permanently removed automatically, and at that point it cannot be recovered by you or by us.
Delete my map.name account.
Requests are actioned within 30 days and normally much sooner. You will get a reply confirming when it is done.
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your captures, notes, photos and links | Hidden immediately, permanently deleted after 90 days, including every stored image and thumbnail |
| Your threads, Rewinds and published pages | Unpublished immediately, so public pages stop resolving and show a short notice. Permanently deleted after 90 days |
| Your profile, handle and account record | Permanently deleted after 90 days, and the handle becomes available again |
| Search and organisation data derived from your captures | Deleted with them, on the same 90 day schedule |
| Record that a deletion took place | Kept. A dated entry with no content, so a deletion is never silently undone if we ever restore a backup |
| Encrypted backups | Expire automatically within 35 days, then are gone. We do not restore individual accounts from them |
| Payment records, if you ever subscribed | Kept by our payment provider as long as tax and accounting law requires. These hold billing details, never your captures |
In short: your content disappears from the service the moment you delete, is permanently removed 90 days later, and then disappears from encrypted backups within a further 35 days as those expire on their normal schedule. If you want it gone sooner than 90 days, email us and say so.
You do not have to delete everything to remove something. Any single capture can be deleted from the app or the web at any time, and any published page can be unpublished, which removes it from the public web while keeping your private copy.
Email admin@map.name and a person will answer. If you are mid-deletion and change your mind, say so quickly: once the deletion is processed it cannot be reversed.
